So I was thinking about things today while driving around aimlessly for whatever reason. The topic in mind came up as I was speaking to my girlfriend about the whole idea of Fan Fiction, she didn't know the stuff existed until she started dating me, so there ya go. But she asked me while I didn't really like doing it anymore and the number one reason I could spit out was "Stagnation". Realistically, everything feels like it's the same, I dunno how prevalent that idea is, but when we were talking she turned around and asked me "Well what if it could be different, how would you fix it?" Of course women are going to ask silly questions! Then I realized, well shit, why don't I put my money where my mouth is, I spoke to Bookster about this and he wanted me to post it here, so bear with me while I explain!
Imagine a world that we all played in like it was our sandbox, but imagine that world starting off with the history that Bookey started to build and attracted us to come here in the first place to write the projects we want. Now imagine that world being forced to change as events in these characters lives unfold. Yeah, that's right, I'm talking about dynamic growth not only for individual titles but for the entire world as well. A singular goal for us all to manipulate. So this is what I'm pitching, what if we were to take this project into something like "a year in the life of..." so to speak. Take that time, say 12 months, and build whatever stories our minds can think of, and at the end of that year come together either for a "year end anthology" or whatever, and bring those phases to a close.
Sounds weird, no?
Okay, so this is how I envision the idea. Take it as you will, but I'm calling the areas "phases". So we have what came before us, the stuff Bookey put together as Phase "0", our initial 12 month run being Phase "1" we all work to our hearts desire, developing our main character, sending them on adventures and everything that comes with the territory. But at the end of this 12 month phase, we all analyze what has occurred in everyone's title and ask ourselves "what's different"? "How should the rest of the world respond"? That's what I'm talking about, we can say everything is a build up to an event, if you want to call it that, but I'm thinking of something far less sinister. Essentially, what if the group of us takes on this phase 1, or "year 1" project and commit only to that phase, then taking another title for a spin for "year 2". With a different writer, a different take of how the world has developed since the previous year, something that we all decide upon previous.
So simply:
Phase "0": The history that's come before. All that is set in stone.
Phase "1": The initial 12 months of our stories, the adventures our characters go through and their hardships.
Phase "2": The world's reaction, how society, villainy, political powers, and the other super heroes have changed? (Writer shifts)
Phase "3": The world's reaction, how society, villainy, political powers, and the other super heroes have changed? (Writer shifts)
Phase "4": The world's reaction, how society, villainy, political powers, and the other super heroes have changed? (Writer shifts)
Phase "5": The world's reaction, how society, villainy, political powers, and the other super heroes have changed? (Writer shifts)
Etc and so forth.
Whatcha think?
